Project Controls

Background

At the time of this writing, 54 of the current 104 operating commercial nuclear power plants in the US have been granted license extensions with 20 additional license extension applications under NRC review. Many nuclear stations have applied for or are currently at some stage of plant modification related to Extended Power Uprate (EPU). The Nuclear New Build market is maturing as well with 20 new active license applications.

New Builds, Plant Life Extensions, EPU’s, and age related component procurement and replacement all require some level of project management and control. This influx of O&M and Capital projects may over burden or at minimum tax most sites in house project management staff.

Current Industry Situation/Needs

Project management and controls offerings vary widely; educators marketing their services, consultants offering advice, PMI training to site managers and software application training or staffing services offering experienced but unsupported individuals. These offerings often use examples and tools set up for business and project types that do not satisfy the specific needs of the commercial nuclear power plant client.

TriVis Project Management and Controls Services Provided

TriVis is able to place qualified personnel on-site through our Staffing Services to support a site’s existing project management group with hands on assistance using TriVis structured management and controls. However, an alternative suggestion is to allow TriVis to assist your project management group with a more direct and holistic approach. TriVis supplies experienced project professionals experienced in implementing TriVis’ project management and controls tools. The Project Controls team brings extensive power plant and T&D major project management experience and then tailors our unique processes to fit the site / project accounting and reporting structure through application mapping. TriVis provides a complete suite of Project Controls that starts with detailed Work Breakdown Structures, detailed project plans and multi level schedules (worked out with care and detail and developed thoroughly). That foundation is supported by accurate procurement and cost estimate methodology (union/non-union), budget/cash flow management, cost capture and recording, financial tracking, and critical path analysis, that delivers effective earned value tracking and project management.

TriVis’ project management and controls supports all 5 main project phases; initiate, plan, execute, control, and close. The competing demands of scope, time, cost, risk, and quality are addressed at every phase.

Major investment projects have a beginning and an end. They can be a great source of corporate pride and accomplishment, or great pain and financial hardship. TriVis Inc works with our power plant owners and T&D investors to deliver effective Project Controls systems, tools, staff, and reporting protocols. The effective integration of these TriVis resources with the project staff to deliver accurate and actionable project information makes the difference in delivering on time and on budget projects.

TriVis Inc. provides experienced management and controls personnel who are capable of providing project planning, execution, control and closeout at the right level for a project’s size and complexity. TriVis management and controls package is already tailored to the nuclear power industry and further refines and modifies this package to fit the site specific accounting and reporting processes. We work closely with each customer to establish the right level of management and controls to meet each project’s complexity, cost and risk profile. Systems, cost capture, and reports are structured to ensure that schedule, cost and quality aspects are maintained at the highest degree.
